We were so much impressed meeting the people making globes with strong passion and the CoolGlobes with various hot messages.
And at the O’Hare airport, what waiting for us feeling reluctant to leave Chicago was…
A globe shape illumination!! It was a nice surprise.

| 地球儀は、平面では再現できない正確な地図をもち、世界全体を一度に見渡すことの出来る唯一の道具です。近年、インターネットの普及で地図もどんどん進化し、知らない土地の細い路地裏まで画面上で見ることができる時代になりましたが、平面では正解を部分的に捉えることしかできません。
地球儀をくるくると回しながら眺めていると、自分や、自分の今居る場所と、世界の繋がりを実感できます。
知らない国のことを想像したり、広大な砂漠地帯を見て環境問題について考えたり・・・「自分と地球との関わりを知る・考える」ための道具ではないかと思います。
お店に来てくれた方だけでなく、より多くの人にその魅力を知ってもらうために、地球儀専門店ではウェブサイト上でスタッフの体験記も紹介しています。
2006年、アメリカ・シカゴで始まった地球温暖化を食い止めるためのイベント「クールグローブス」。ここでは100個以上の巨大な地球儀が街を埋め尽くしました。その様子をレポートすべく、私達は実際にシカゴへ飛んで取材してきました。温暖化ストップを世界の人々に訴える手段として、地球儀は強烈なインパクトを残していました。
地理的な情報源としてだけではなく、使う人の世界がどんどん広がり、世界と繋がっていく、地球儀はそんな存在です。これからも、その魅力をもっと多くの人に知ってもらえるよう、いろいろな角度から地球儀を紹介していきたいと思います。 |
